View from Onverwacht Cottages
Last Friday played golf at Worcester and decided that the winner would organise a trip to do the Boesmanskloof 2 day hiking trail between McGregor and Greyton. It was a beautiful day for golf, finished before it got too warm or the wind picked up. I played under my handicap and as a result ending up organising the hike.
We decided to start from the McGregor side and stay in the Onverwacht Cottage by Die Galg Link to accommodation, then hike to Greyton and stay in Marina Cottage (lovely quirky cottage) Link to accommodation, go out for a good dinner and then return to Die Galg on the Friday after a cafe breakfast. I think many people do it the other way round but the advantage this way is that our night between the hikes is spent in more luxury in a town.
First adventure was finding the cottages. I had not properly read the map and missed the turning to the cottages for cars (not real sling there were 2 approaches). Instead we ended up at the hikers entrance, saw a sign saying the road was not suitable for cars (very true) and thought we needed to walk to the cottages. Not sure how far they were so started off (up a moderate hill) with half our kit. After about 5 min, suggested to Mike he go back for the (heavy) cool box plus bottle of wine! whilst I continued on so we did not need to make 2 journeys. Well after about a km I saw the cottages, still some distance away. Decided best to go back and give Mike a hand. Eventually got to the cottage, realising en route that we could have driven there via an earlier turnoff! Went back and got the car.
Now settled in having a glass of wine in front of the fire. I can imagine that on a warm summers evening sitting on the deck having a brai and some beers looking at the view would be a very nice way to while away an evening. unfortunately tonight it is cold and windy. PS good idea to bring your own firelighters
Need to mention that we stopped off on the way for a wine tasting at Lords winery Link to site. Very nice, bought some bottles and Mike says that’s why he didn’t give me a hard time for being so disorganised and dizzy. Had a bottle in front of the fire with chicken salad dinner followed by homemade tiramisu.
