Looking back up to the ridge where our cottage was

We came, with our mountain bikes, for a long weekend and fell in love with the area. Decided we needed to come back to hike the trail to McGregor.
This morning dawned with bright blue skies, the high winds of the last few days had dropped away and we enjoyed our porridge and strawberries sitting on the sloop in morning sun enjoying the views. Had decided on a slow start to let it warm up a bit. Discovered we had walked about 1.4k (uphill) with the cool box the previous evening!
Lovely hike down the to the valley, lots of different flowers in bloom and the birds were chirping away. The first section of the hike (we took the route below Eagles Nest Guest House) was the steepest section and with a lot of loose stones on the path we went slowly and watched our footing. On reaching the valley floor the path undulated along the valley sides. We met a few people who had started their hike in Greyton but could not see anyone ahead of us which was nice.
Had our lunch in a shady spot just above the swimming hole fed by a waterfall. Pork pies and cheese what a combination. From there we had a steady uphill section to the top of the pass above Greyton where the path changed to a dirt service road. Views still wonderful and nice not to worry about my footing so much. Got to the path trail head in about 5 hours including our breaks and multiple photo stops.
It was then a half hour walk to the village cafe where we spoilt ourselves with tea and excellent cake (carrot cake + cheesecake). Often I find cheesecake can be too heavy and cloying but this was light and very enjoyable. Will I be able to do justice to dinner later on this evening?
