View of the Franschhoek Valley from Vista Point

One of our favourite hikes is the circular trail via the Uitkyk lookout taking the Manganese trail up to Du Toitskop peak and then down the Ridgeline to Vista point and back to the car.   We have done it many times since the Manganese trail extension was opened in 2016. Some of the reasons why I like it so much are

  • There are always some new flowers to look out for and marvel at,
  • the walk is long enough to feel that you have earned a beer or something similar at the end
  • As the trail is at a higher altitude it tends to be cooler which is a blessing in the warmer months
  • the views are outstanding
  • I like being able to look up to the ridge thinking about the times we have hiked it when in the valley below

For me when a hike becomes a favourite it is hard to think of specific days to write about, however, I do know that whenever I come down from this hike I feel happy and lucky to be living in this part of the world

Note that for the trail shown on the route page we hiked slightly up the Perdekop trail at the junction to get to a shady rock overhang to have our morning coffee break. This is a great place for some shade on a hot sunny day. We were not lost / taking the wrong trail!
